Montecastelli and Bocca di Pavone
There are few places like Montecastelli Pisano. Here you can travel back to the Middle Ages, either by walking through the village (which has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries), or by enjoying the panorama, which goes from the upper Val di Cecina to the sea with no trace of human dwellings in between. From Montecastelli we move into the woods, and then along slopes and ridges, amidst the intense green of the meadows and the purple-white of the metamorphic rocks, which show the geological and mineralogical diversity of this area. After passing Cerbaiola, a rural centre where you can still breathe in the rural life of the past with farmhouses, old agricultural tools and grazing cattle you will finally, descend to Bocca di Pavone, where the homonymous stream flows into the Cecina river at the mouth of a rocky gorge, one of the best wild nature spots in all Tuscany.
