Going up to the imposing fortress of Rocca Sillana (11th-16th century), which has been restored and can be visited, one of the most significant examples of military architecture, means arriving at another world, still and timeless: a view as far as the eye can see, dominating the Valle del Diavolo, the Alta Val di Cecina and a good part of Tuscany, as far as the reflections of the sea and the islands. It is easy to imagine, if you close your eyes, its enormous strategic importance in past centuries. Inside, recovered thanks to recent archaeological work, remains of pottery, glass, a sword and arrowheads have been found, which can be seen in the permanent exhibition Guerrieri a Artigiani di Pomarance (Pomarance Warriors and Artisans).
