Situated on the top of a hill, the village, in the municipality of Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, overlooks the Pavone stream and the Cecina river. Built from a medieval castle and dominated by the ancient Pannocchieschi tower, the village retains its ancient structure. The Church of Santi Filippo e Jacopo and the Museum of Rural Civilisation are valuable. The area is really interesting for its historical and natural features: the Florentine Caves, the remains of the copper and silver mines of Pavone and the ancient Etruscan Buca delle Fate tomb are certainly worth a visit.
