A fascinating place steeped in history. The remains of the Bishops’ Castle dominate the Sellate and Botro al Rio valleys and are certainly one of the most interesting medieval sites in the Volterrano area, and among the most pictureque of the entire Region. An important medieval settlement, dating back to the 9th century, it was for a long time the stronghold of the Bishops of Volterra, who administered justice and minted money here. Unfortunately, it is not in a good state of preservation, so it can only be seen from the outside.
