Situated just below Poggio alla Fame, on the edge of the ‘via salaiola’, the road that connected Volterra with Prato d’Era, the Fonte all’Agnello is all that remains of a fountain with a basin built to quench the thirst of travellers and the numerous mules that travelled the road in both directions. A wall of the fountain still bears a marble slab engraved with the coat of arms of Volterra.
