The farm stands on the remains of the pre-existing castle of Caselli or Caselle, attested at least since 1204. It was transformed into a villa by the Gotti and Maffei families of Volterra between 1600 and 1700 and then into a farm by the Gherardesca counts, who owned it until 1924. Today it is part of the heritage of the Region and an educational-receptive structure of the Nature Reserve. The small church is still consecrated.
