Il punto di partenza del percorso \u00e8 raggiungibile dal borgo di Mazzolla, percorrendo la strada sterrata che porta nella Riserva di Berignone, in loc. Capannone. <\/em><\/strong>Dal parcheggio della Riserva vicino alla sbarra, l\u2019inizio del percorso dista a piedi circa 500 m. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Il Percorso fa parte dei 7 Sentieri Natura delle Riserve Naturali e  presenta una guida descrittiva con i punti tappa segnalati e numerati sul tracciato.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Lungo il Torrente Sellate si va alla scoperta del Castello dei Vescovi di Volterra.<\/p>\n

Un’antica via di fondovalle consente l\u2019accesso al Castello dei Vescovi, o \u201cTorraccia\u201d. I resti del Castello dominano la valle del torrente Sellate, evidenziando l\u2019importanza di questo luogo, sia come uno degli insediamenti medievali pi\u00f9 importanti del Volterrano, sia come una delle aree pi\u00f9 selvagge della Riserva.<\/p>\n

Ideale per le famiglie e per le persone con disabilit\u00e0, il sentiero \u00e8 in parte percorribile anche a cavallo o in mountain-bike. Il cammino \u00e8 facilitato dalla presenza di un\u2019 area di sosta, accessibile a tutti, e da un tracciato ampio, pianeggiante e con fondo battuto situato, in gran parte, all\u2019ombra di freschi boschi.<\/p>\n

L\u2019incontro con le vaste foreste e con la fauna selvatica, il riconoscimento degli alberi pi\u00f9 tipici della zona e l\u2019osservazione delle numerose testimonianze geologiche sono alcune delle esperienze pi\u00f9 caratteristiche di questo percorso. Ma l\u2019elemento centrale rimane la scoperta dell\u2019ecosistema fluviale, con la sua tipica vegetazione ripariale e le numerose specie animali e vegetali. Una scoperta agevolata durante il sentiero di ritorno lungo la sponda del torrente Sellate. Alcuni punti panoramici sulla suggestiva gola del Botro al Rio, mostrano ripide pareti rocciose, habitat ideale del muflone e di alcuni rapaci, come il falco pellegrino.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
