The GeoFestival:3 days of sport, music and fun<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

GeoGravel Tuscany is a festival for gravel lovers, enriched with live music and new food and wine experiences. Sport and fun on a route to discover the geothermal territory in a part of Tuscany never seen before.<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The event will start on Friday September 22nd at 6 p.m. <\/strong>at the Geo Village set up in the “Pratone” of Pomarance. It is still possible to register and collect the race package (called ‘Goodie Bags’).\r\nThe live concert by local groups will take place at 9.30 p.m., so don\u2019t miss the chance to listen good music and enjoy typical food and drinks of the territory.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

On Saturday, September 23rd <\/strong>the GeoGravel Tuscany gets into full swing…<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Geo Village will reopen at 2 p.m.: registration and Goodie Bags collection, after which there will be Paolo Bettini on stage for an \u201cEpic Briefing\u201d, dispensing tips and recommendations on how to tackle 250 extremely hard kilometres on the Strade Grigie.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

From 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. the brave will be able to leave to pursue their own little big challenge.\r\nAt 7 p.m. AperiFestival and Food & Drinks as well as briefing for the GeoGravel participants who already crossed the finish line.\r\nAt 10 p.m. the stage will light up thanks to the music of the great DJ Federico Scavo.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

On Sunday September 24th from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. <\/strong>breakfast at the GeoVillage with coffee, eggs and bacon to get ready for the adventure.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n

From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. the ride begins with the French start of the Short, Medium and Long GeoGravel Tuscany routes (feel free to choose the best time according to your skills and needs)<\/p>\r\n\r\n

At 12 p.m. at the GeoVillage will start the Pasta Party and it will continue until 5.00 p.m., when all participants will have reached the finish line.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

At 5 p.m. a final aperitif to say goodbye to old and new friends and meet again next year!<\/p>\r\n\n

Geogravel Tuscany is the first gravel experience dedicated to the Geothermics leading participants to discover the most fascinating unpaved roads of the Metalliferous Hills, also known as the ‘Strade Grigie’. Based on an idea of the Olympic champion and multi-world champion Paolo Bettini, this is a ride through olive groves and Mediterranean scrub, ancient villages and enchanting fortresses, united by the evocative medieval town of Pomarance, the authentic heart of the event. A unique territory where the warm heart of the Val di Cecina boils in a perfect scenario, among geysers and lakes that even inspired Dante for his Inferno and that still fascinate riders eager to experience great adventures.<\/p>\r\n

Mirrors of crystal-clear water lost in uncontaminated woods, trails light years away from civilisation, a glass of red at sunset and all the authentic flavours of the hinterland. Tuscany you have never seen, dedicated to those stories yet to be written.<\/p>\r\n\n

SHORT TRAIL | 46 km \n850 m+ | 4 h | start: 7.00 a.m. – 9.00 am<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

September 24th <\/p>\n\n

Starting from Pomarance, the short route, as well as the medium and long ones, winds along paved roads in excellent condition among fields and ancient farmhouses to climb towards Libbiano on a winding road from which to enjoy pleasant views of the landscape on the hills below. After Libbiano, the route ventures into the Monterufoli Reserve via gravel paths perfectfor gravel lovers. Back on the provincial road to Serrazzano, the route continues until it detours onto a secondary road that runs alongside Montecerboli, immersed in the woods surrounding the village. Here you will skirt the Gabbro power station, the largest in terms of MegaWatt production in the entire geothermal area. \nBefore returning to Pomarance, a diversion on an unpaved road surrounded by Mediterranean scrub allows a close-up view of the grandeur of one of the power stations in the geothermal district of Larderello, continuing towards the finish. The final stretch is all along a paved road, along which one can admire the panorama of the countryside and hills with the village of Volterra in the background.<\/p>\n\n

MEDIUM TRAIL | 90 km\u20281600 m+ | 7 h | start: 7.00 a.m. \u2013 9.00 am<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The medium route of the GeoGravel Tuscany 2023 starts from Pomarance and shares the first part of the route with the short one. Unfolding among fields and ancient farmhouses, it begins to climb towards Libbiano with a winding road from which to enjoy pleasant views of the landscape on the hills below. Then it ventures into the Monterufoli Reserve via the ‘Strade Grigie’ (Grey Roads) suitable for gravel riders, which run for kilometres in the middle of the wilderness. Leaving this detour far from civilisation, we arrive at Querceto, the perfect village to stop for a break, enjoying the landscape and tasting some local specialities. Back on the provincial road, along a long scenic descent amid postcard-perfect scenery, La Gabella is another perfect place to take a short break at, a must for locals where they can breathe in the authenticity of country life. The route continues for a few more kilometres of paved road until reaching another diversion that takes participants off the beaten track, with a nice stretch of fairly demanding grey roads that also includes some fun hairpin bends through the woods. Back on the provincial road, riders start climbing again towards Serrazzano and then continue in the direction of Larderello where the route touches on the Enel Green Power plant at Gabbro before skirting Montecerboli, cycling through the woods surrounding the village. The path then returns to Pomarance among farms, countryside and endless hills.<\/p>\n\n

LONG TRAIL | 112 km \n2150 m+ | 10 h | start: 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The long route of GeoGravel Tuscany 2023 starts from Pomarance and shares the first part of the route with the short and medium ones. Upon reaching this village with its medieval history, where the salty air from the Tyrrhenian Sea is already in the air, the path continues first towards the Etruscan Coast with the sea in the background, then up the cypress-lined avenue towards Bolgheri, a famous place where a break for lunch is a must, to enjoy the true Tuscan atmosphere and a wine loved all over the world \nFollowing woods populated by a few farms, we return to the Provincial Road at Canneto, passing again through the Monterufoli – Caselli Nature Reserve and rejoining the medium and short route to return to Pomarance on the same route.<\/p>\n\n

September 23rd<\/p>\n\n

The ‘I Temerari’ (Brave) route of GeoGravel Tuscany 2023 is almost the same as the long trail (In Sunday, September 24th) until just four kilometres from Pomarance, where it turns left in the direction of San Dalmazio and Siena area. Rolling through fields and ancient farmhouses, it begins to climb towards Libbiano with a winding road from which to enjoy pleasant views of the landscape on the hills below. From here the route ventures into the Monterufoli Reserve along gravel paths that run for kilometres through the wilderness. In Bibbona, a real journey into the world of the famous Supertuscan wines begins with the crossing of the Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, an unforgettable view of the vineyards, reached by a gravel road. Then, once in Bolgheri, the route heads inland through the scents and enchantments of the Mediterranean scrub towards Larderello, in the heart of the Metalliferous Hills, and then up to Montecerboli, reaching the famous village of San Dalmazio through a series of hairpin bends in the woods. On the way back to Pomarance, via Casole d\u2019Elsa, riders will have the chance to admire the magnificent fortified village of Monteriggioni and then the Berignone Reserve, full of paths, small lakes and rivers. The last real challenge is the ford of the Cecina river before returning to Pomarance, which marks the end of this long and exciting adventure.<\/p>\n\n
